List of fan games
In the context of Tetris, fan games are computer tetromino games unconnected with Elorg, The Tetris Company, or any other licensor of rights in the Tetris trademark. They tend to follow the well-known rules of Tetris but may not strictly follow any official guidelines.

Straight tetromino games
The following games more or less faithfully replicate the rules of some version of Tetris, either pre-Guideline or post-Guideline:

- ACiD Tetris (later renamed Super ACiD Block Attack)
- Aint - free software for MS-DOS, possibly the first copylefted tetromino game

- Atomic Tetris - clone for MS-DOS
- BCTMP - Brian Caos Tempting Music Player (versions Beta 1 and Beta 2 previously known as "Brian Caos Tetris Music Player"), IT/MOD/S3M/XM music player with a built-in Tetris game
- Bedter by Andrew Bednarz - freeware for Windows and Linux, famously targeted by TTC which alleged "look and feel" copyright violation
- Blocks A Java version of the game.
- Block Star - Integrated Facebook Tetris, featuring comparison leaderboard to your circle of friends, or all users. Subsequently taken over by The Tetris Company.
- Breakris by Jürgen Müller - freeware for Windows. It has a very good single and multiplayer-Tetris, plus Breakris - Breakout and Tetris at the same time.
- Cultris - A clone focusing on combo-based play.
- Cultris II - Sequel to Cultris.
- Double Blocks - A clone for DOS. Features multiplayer via modem.

- Falling Up - a "twist" on Tetris (freeware/open source for Windows, OS X, linux)
- Face to Face - a 1990 Taiwanese Tetris/Bloxeed clone focusing on versus play, apparently popular in China, Taiwan and Hong Kong.
- Full HD Tetris - A series of games with Full HD resolution and large playfields.
- GinT - Falling Tetromino game within the 3D world of Second Life.
- GTET - A clone of Tetris The Grand Master. Now apparently lost.
- Heboris - A clone designed to mimic the TGM series.

- Java Tetris v2.11 - Nice Java applet Tetris clone by Andreas Ludwig that supports multi-player and computer AI players
- LJ65 (formerly Tetramino) - a homebrew game for NES.
- Lockjaw - primarily a guideline simulator, with dozens of options to change behavior
- Lockjaw: The Overdose (formerly Tetanus On Drugs) - free software for Game Boy Advance, inspired by Tetripz and considered by many players to be superior in look and feel to the GBA version of Tetris Worlds

- N-Blox - Tetris clone by Neave Games. Subsequently taken over by The Tetris Company.
- Nishisansou Tetris - Tetris clone for the Sharp X68000.
- NullpoMino - highly customisable clone with many modes.
- Nyet - one of the earliest Tetris clones, dating from 1988.

- Quinn - Described as an arcade-style tetromino puzzle game written and designed specifically for Mac OS X
- Rheolism - A Tetris game in one line of BBC Basic.
- T3tr0s - A Tetris game that has 10 themes based on various Tetris games that can be changed on the fly.
- Tetriculis — Tetris as Google Gadget.
- Tetripz by Mute Fantasies - freeware for MS-DOS, with visual distortions of the playfield
- ТЕТРИС SEMIPRO-68k - clone for the X68000, notable for the first use of 20G
- Tetris-EX
- Tetris V - a Sega Tetris clone for the X68000.
- Tetris Weightlifting - A modified version of Tetris using exercise equipment as the control mechanism.
- Tetrominoes A light and fast Javascript version of the game
- Texmaster - possibly the most accurate PC-based simulator of the TGM series
- Tommy's Nyet - shareware clone for DOS. Has a hot-seat "tournament mode" where multiple players are given the same piece sequence and need to get as high a score as possible.
- Twintris (Digital Marketing, programmed by Svein Berge)
- Vertris - A simple cross-platform clone.
- Zentris - by Robert J. Sundling
Malicious piece generation
Variants that attempt to give the player the worst possible piece.
- Bastet - Literally, Bastard Tetris. Made to be as annoying and frustrating as possible.
- Hatetris - Variation by Sam Hughes of Things of Interest. Has a replay system.
- Stacked Odds - Uses an 8-wide playfield.
In addition, the following games previously listed have game modes that attempt to do this:
- Abandoned Bricks in Bastet mode (using the algorithm from v0.41 of Bastet)
- Cultris II during the WTF challenge
- LTris with Expert Mode on (with the constraint that piece generation stil acts as a bag randomiser in this mode)
- NullpoMino when using the Eviline randomiser
- Quadrapassel
Non-2D variants
These games correspond to attempts to take the gameplay of Tetris into higher (or lower) dimensions.
- Humorous versions#1D Tetris - Various 1D variants.
- 3D Tetris - 3dtetris.com 3D variant of the classic Tetris game. You can play the game: online, offline and mobile. The game use the Java virtual machine.
- 3DTRIS - 3dtris.de A clone of Blockout (3D variant of Tetris) in Macromedia Flash. Its gameplay is very smooth, just like original Blockout. Online high score list with growing competitions.
- 4D-Tris - A 4D variant where the aim is to fill 2 × 2 × 2 layers.
- Blockout II - blockout.net The best clone of Blockout (3D Tetris) for Windows using DirectX. Online high score list, forum, wiki.
- Frac - A 3D variant for DOS and Macintosh.
- Frac4d - A 4D variant derived from Frac. Released as freeware in 2006.
- HyperTetris - Another 4D variant with a 4 × 4 × 4 × 10 playfield.
Other variants
These games have game play rules inspired by Tetris, such as rotation of shapes to form complete lines, but introduce rule variations that change the game play greatly.
Serious variants
- Bomblin - A Bombliss clone, taking inspiration from the TGM series.
- Dream of Pixels - A game where the player has to remove tetromino-shaped pieces from a cloud mass.
- Java Tetris - A Java Tetris game that follows the gameplay rules of the original, but has more than 30 shape types and a few new game modes, including a "Hardcore" mode where the game is played on a 125x125 grid.
- Kowalis - Introduces a mechanic where blocks can break.
- Not Tetris - Incorporates a physics engine. The aim is to stack as many pieces as possible on the playfield before topping out.
- Not Tetris 2 - Adds a game mode where lines can be cleared.
- Phystris - Incorporates a physics engine. Has modes based on clearing horizonal lines, clearing colour lines, and making groups of blocks of the same colour.
- Quadra - Open source clone with cascade gravity. Features very fast-paced online play.
- Torus - A game on a cylinder.
Less serious variants

- First-Person Tetris - rotates the player's viewpoint when a piece is rotated.
- Futilitris
- Heaven - Based on the xkcd strip of the same name; regularly drops "heavenly" blocks that cover the entire stack.
- Hell Tetris - Based on another xkcd strip; gives the playfield a rounded bottom.
- Tuper Tario Tros. - Combines Super Mario Bros. and Tetris.
