Do you think we should list the "where to start" part in tables? This could decrease scrolling. Nicholas 21:30, 15 November 2006 (EST)

I think the start page is too compact. We're sacrificing function over form. Rather than putting arbitrary articles on the main page, can't we make it more standard by having more portals? Most of the articles on the wiki are so obscured at the moment and are hardly useful if one doesn't look them up. The main page seriously needs a makeover to make everything easier to access. I don't know how many times someone has asked me for the link to the Twists article which should be easier to find then something like the Single Triple Single setup. --DIGITAL 20:04, 21 March 2007 (EDT)
I myself have said the same thing numerous times, but alas, Caffeine doesn't wish to enable that. As long as there ones that are willing to constantly "delete/revert/delete/revert/delete/revert" etc..., I suppose that it's unnecassary then.

Something like this page would be much more beneficial overall. http://gw.gamewikis.org/wiki/Main_Page

Our wiki has no sense of direction for newcomers. The page doesn't have to be as clogged as the Guild Wiki but it should convey a stronger architecture to develop and search in. --DIGITAL 20:42, 21 March 2007 (EDT)

We rarely get links, so that part seems to be working. Is there a mediawiki extension that could detect the gibberish? It's not as simple to detect as links, but it is pretty consistent. Something like 7-14 characters added, usually containing a huge consonant cluster. This could eliminate most of the spam. --Colour Thief 18:44, 11 November 2007 (EST)

Anti-spam suggestions

I'd like to suggest setting the wiki to disallow editing without being logged in, since most of the spam appears to be coming from anonymous edits.

As for the spambots that do manage to create accounts, I've found a reCAPTCHA MediaWiki extention that might help. --Poochy 21:36, 10 November 2007 (EST)

Right now, we have a system where if an edit includes a link, it asks you to do something. It doesn't stop the random spam edits, though. The problem with something more intricate is that it would be annoying to people who are trying to be helpful. And yes, Caffeine has veoted the idea of forcing people to be logged in before, and will likely continue to do so... --Lardarse 14:17, 11 November 2007 (EST)
